Northam Forest Carbon came to us with ideas and dreams to bring greater forest conservation focused on carbon to rural communities in Vermont.

We loved having the opportunity to help them get the word out.

Our work with Northam Forest Carbon (NFC) began as a content project, but as we developed content, it quickly became apparent that the organization needed a recognizable logo, a website, and printed materials to share their content with interested parties and supporters.

The founder of NFC knew that he wanted the branches of trees to feature prominently in his logo, and he sent us a sunset photo of two intertwined trees as his inspiration. Because NFC’s work focuses on carbon sequestration and forest management, we played with natural colors as we worked to design a logo.

Our process resulted in several choices that all focused on trees and colors based in nature with varying degrees of complexity. We played with shape and layout as well as the representation of the organization name as both a spelled out name and initials.

The next step in providing a platform for NFC to share their resources was to design and develop a website that would allow them to share their mission.

Given the focus on nature and preservation in Vermont, a website that focused on the beautiful imagery of the forests was a requirement.

The final selection was a highly stylized rendition of the sunset photograph that was the inspiration for the logo.

We were able to use the awesome photography that NFC had generated both on the ground and with drones which provided fantastic images to tie the text together.  We worked with NFC to be sure that the website included everything they needed and nothing they didn’t.  We created a front page to provide an overview of the work they are doing in carbon storage and sequestration, and then we used additional pages to highlight more information and resources.

We have been working with NFC to create printed materials to get the word out about carbon storage and sequestration in Vermont. One of our favorite projects was the poster above that was featured at the Vermont state fair.
