High Desert Cotton is a small fashion and accessory design studio that began in Joshua Tree, California. 

The brand name and ethos was designed around the owner’s southern roots and love for cotton fabric paired with the casual chic of the California desert. 

 The original logo and color scheme for the brand tapped into the simplicity of the cotton ball as a representation of the simplicity of the cotton fabrics that the brand used to design and create bespoke bandanas, fashion accessories, and housewares. Their website was designed with bright desert colors to offset their fashions and connect with the vibrant Southern California fashion trends.  

Recently the brand relocated to Boulder, Colorado, and they wanted to find a way to update the brand to fit with the new location.  We quickly realized that the word “high”was still a perfect fit for a location dominated by the mountain scenery.  The owners decided to lean into this fortuitous transition and doubled down on the brand logo by moving toward a fresh, new take on the original.  

In order to honor the history and the future of this design studio, we updated the simple cotton ball imagery with cleaner lines and fresh colors.  We accessed the western vibe of both the California desert and the Colorado mountains by transitioning to a font that had a more “western”feel.  

We also provided a more cohesive and brand representative option for them to use on their socials.

While the original website was full of beautiful colors and lots of imagery, they were frustrated that the shopping experience was confusing and overloading shoppers with content.  

In the spirit of fresh, clean lines, we updated the layout to be more focused on the images of their products and facilitate easy shopping. We created simple drop down menus, coordinated colors across the site, and updated the colors to reflect their fresh new color scheme.

We love when clients bring us a brand with history and meaning already wrapped up in the name and design because it’s the passion and brand narrative that we are always looking to uncover.  In the case of High Desert Cotton, we are so glad that we could design a fresh new look for the move of their design studio to our corner of the world.
