An invitation is more than just a way to know the time.
The Caltech Women’s Club transitioned to virtual events when the world shut down, and they needed to find a way to make sure their members felt connected and cared for.
We were thrilled to help the Caltech Women’s Club (CWC) transition successfully to virtual events. With many older members in their community, making sure people had a way to stay connected and safe was a priority. They decided to host a series of events focused on cooking and flowers so that their members could connect over new recipes and ways to make their homes more beautiful during the stay-at-home orders.
The name of the events were the first step, and we settled on the At-Home Hospitality Series to be sure that the attendees saw the events as a collection and to encourage them to connect for the three events as a whole. We then developed invitations that could be used in emails and on their socials. Like all invitations, making sure the required information was there was our first priority, but then we also wanted to find a way to have the series be connected visually across the separate invitations and also be full of beautiful imagery so that they would stand out in the sea of emails everyone was getting as the pandemic wore on. We used a formal font and selected a dark teal accented by a soft green with accents in shimmery gold to provide a bit of fineness.
We created invitations for the three events as well as a menu to showcase the first event. We also set up and managed the Eventbrite site, reservations, emails, and social media for the events.
After all the invitations were sent out and the events were underway, we were excited to get to create both a recipe book and flower arranging brochure for attendees. Using photographs of handwritten recipes, we created a book based on the visual theme of the At-Home series. Including quotes and tips from the event, we interspersed the recipes with important information so that the attendees could recreate the recipes themselves.
For the flower arranging event, we created a two-page handout with the information and photos of the arrangements described throughout the evening so that people could create their own floral arrangements in the spirit of At-Home Hospitality.
Despite all the changes that were necessary for the CWC when things shut down, it was wonderful to get to work on a project that was focused on bringing socialization to members of the community even in a virtual setting.
From the invitations to the recipe book, informational flyer, and social management, it was a delight.
